My name is Martin McCudden and I’ve been a Financial Adviser for over 20 years. PKM Financial Services Ltd, is based in Llandudno and Kinmel Bay, North Wales and serves individuals and businesses across Mid and North Wales. As you may be aware, a lot of the UK Banks, such as Santander, Halifax, Barclays, Lloyds, Nat West etc, have finished their Financial Advisers and made them redundant, or greatly reduced the one to one service now only available to high net worth customers, so if you find you have been left high and dry and have investments with the bank and no-one to discuss them with then just give me a call. In the past I’ve worked as a Financial Adviser for both Lloyds and HSBC as well as specialising in organisations affiliated to the teaching fraternity.
The advice available can range from more complex needs such as pension or investment and wealth planning to more straight forward, but equally important, life insurance for the family and to financially protect your loved ones or to cover the mortgage debt, whether it be on a personal or business basis. Complex estate planning is also available such as trusts, wills or inheritance tax mitigation. Many other needs can be met, such as arranging your mortgage.

Qualified to a high standard and holding industry recognised qualifications, I have many years in the industry and I’m able to help and analyse the needs of my customers and provide sensible solutions, all at a time to suit them in the comfort of their own homes. People are busy, they work all day, it’s hard to get time out for a review, it’s a common challenge so flexibility of the adviser is key.
There is often confusion as to what is the difference between an Independent Financial Adviser IFA or Financial Adviser or Financial Planner. Even the spelling of the words can differ, is it financial adviser or financial advisor or independent financial advisor. To briefly explain there is only one, as there is only one solicitor who may then choose to specialise in different areas. When it comes to the tag of independent this means they have unrestricted access to just about every financial provider in the UK market and beyond, so the advice itself may be the same as a financial adviser but the product to match that need may be from a different provider. Some people like Heinz beans some people like Branstons, but they’re both beans ! A restricted financial adviser can be restricted to a few companies or even tied to just one, such as a bank adviser perhaps offering only one provider, their bank ! Sometimes although restricted the financial adviser may still have access to a vast array of companies and their products which are then distilled down into what we in the industry call a white list. The list will consist of providers that have been researched in depth and the financial adviser knows their products to a very high degree and has chosen to use their range over another provider which they felt were perhaps offering less competitive or less flexible cover or product. It is this range I fall into. We are termed as restricted advice.
The needs vary depending where a client is on their life cycle or indeed their business. The needs can range from protection needs such as life insurance or critical illness cover to savings needs such as investments and ISA plans or general wealth management to even tidying up old pension plans you may have amassed from different jobs in the past. Other areas may include personal pensions, mortgage advice, wills and funeral planning. Business protection needs could be keyman assurance or business term assurance or Key person cover, a relevant life plan as well as wider needs such as auto enrolment or group pension planning. I’m getting a lot of queries currently where folk have investments in their bank but there’s no adviser to speak to or have a review face to face with.
